Innovation within the Culinary Industry

Hi guys! I hope we have been following my past posts and making healthier meal choices! However, I’m not here to share a recipe today. I am going to be exploring the topic of innovative technology that’s changing lives in the food industry.

I’m sure we are all aware of how advanced technology has gotten especially by the use of touchscreen devices and software that has made living and eating what we want so much easier. We can literally have restaurants at our doorsteps.

Are you in the restaurant business or do you eat out a lot? Have you ever decided to eat out on a Friday night and decided you made the wrong choice upon reaching a chaotic restaurant!? Yeah I hate when that happens. There’s actually technology that can change that though and I believe the faster all restaurants hop on to this pre-reservation train then the quicker they can increase their stars on google and the sales in their cash books.

OpenTable

Opentable, is an online-based restaurant-reservation service company. It was founded back in 1998 by Chuck Templeton. It was first called easyeats.com until officially labeled as Opentable. The website had  started out offering a limited selection of operations to restaurants in San Francisco. This led to a new world of technological software to help restaurants become more organized. This was the birth of the digital table/reservation manager. Other digital reservation managers that now exist are Yelp Reservations, Host Me, Guest Serve, Seven Rooms, Tables Ready, Ready8 and many others.

Is this digital software really worth it?

Long wait times at any time of the day, are definitely a major source of customer dissatisfaction at restaurants. With technology, customers and employees can be kept happy with a digital table or reservation manager.

  • Digital table managers do everything you need from booking reservations directly with customers to suggesting optimal seating arrangements based on the time and size of the party.
  • Some restaurants offer customers the chance to put themselves on digital wait lists. This helps to ensure that all or most tables are filled in an efficient manner, since most cancellations tend to happen within 24 hours before the reservation time that was set.
  • The digital manager allows restaurants to provide customers with wait time estimates and they can be easily notified about updates with their reservation through text messages.

Embrace technological innovations

This is really just the baseline of the technological world and what it has to offer. So many new technologies exist that are adding change and improvements to the world of food and beverages. All it really takes, is for entrepreneurs to be open with innovation and welcome growth.
